The face of modern architecture and design across urban landscapes, Aluminium Composite Panels clad facades are a common sight. They have plenty of benefits and come in a variety of colours, variety of texture which makes it an architect’s delight. Viva ACP sheets come in 300+ colours, customisable for colours, wind pressure and fire-resistant, making them the best choice for external facades and signages. Here’s everything you need to know about ACP facade cleaning and maintenance process:

  1. TLC is key. Be Gentle.
At Viva we use International standard paints and aluminium coil, which do not succumb to scratches and indentation easily. There is no need to use hard cleaning solutions, solvents etc. Regular cleaning using a sponge/cloth and detergent water is more than sufficient. The aim is to only remove dirt and grit from the surface.
  2. Mind the time.
Take note that as Aluminium is a metal, it is subject to small contraction and expansion based on heat level at certain times of the day. Ensure that you choose a time where it is neither too hot nor too cold so that you can cover the maximum surface without compromise.
  3. Dealing with soil
If the building is in an area that is prone to soil, dirt and grit, which is often the case in industrial zones and city centres, one needs to be mindful about creating scratches. For this reason, a pre-cleaning set up where forceful water rinse is done from top to bottom. Use water and first rinse the panel with moderate pressure. If the soil is sticky and adhering, then you need to go for a mild detergent solution. If the surfaces are blackened due to pollution, then you will need to use detergent.
  4. Dealing with pollution
For dealing with pollution and to restore shine, one needs to use cleaner or detergent. Using a top-down approach, apply cleaner on the surface. However, dripping of cleaner on to the bottom panels needs to be minimised. Remove drips and splashes immediately!
  5. Choosing right cleaner/detergent
Maintaining a pH level of 8 in the water is important. Large deviations from this can result in heavy damage to the panel. Before starting the cleaning procedure, make sure you apply the detergent water to a small patch and leave for one minute to check if there could be any damage. Once the safety of the detergent is confirmed, proceed with the cleaning process. Maximum 5% cleaning solution should be used.
  6. Choosing cleaning material
It is very important to note that your cleaning rags and or sponges are themselves free of grit and dirt. Cleaning with abrasive materials can cause more scratches.
  7. Cleaning process
Horizontal motions first and then vertical motions is the preferred method. Make sure your sponge is thoroughly cleaned and dried. Use a lint-free cloth to remove the excess water after cleaning.
  8. The Dos and Don’ts
Do not use MFK based cleaning agents, caustic soda, potassium hydroxide and acid as you should be aware that ACP sheets are lacquered. If construction is still going on in the building, cover the previously installed ACP panels with something as it is difficult to remove sealants and machine oils from ACP panels.

Viva launches Corten Steel Series as ACP for Exterior Façades

Viva launches Corten Steel Series as ACP for Exterior Façades 825 510 admin

With a commitment to being at the forefront of innovation in the ACP industry, Viva has launched the “Corten Steel” series. The new series brings the much celebrated and widely used corten steel finishes in ACPs. From a rusty orange burn to a textured silvery glaze – the Corten Steel ACPs are an asset to the interior as well as exterior décor.

The natural ageing of high strength steel causes the steel to turn rusty over the years. However, this process of weathering of steel takes a long time, which in turn increases the cost of the material used in architectural projects. Chemically fastening this natural process of oxidation of steel, again, raises the project-cost. Though popular in use, it needed much effort to accomplish a Corten Steel Exterior look for large scale commercial projects.

Corten Steel Series from Viva Composite Panels
With Premium corten steel finish and the multiple advantages of aluminium composites sheets, we launch the “Corten Steel Series”.

ACPs have multiple advantages over steel some of which are :

  • Comparatively inexpensive
  • Easier application
  • The Required strength of the supporting installation is lower
  • Weather tested and durable
  • Highly flexible and can be bent till up to 90 degrees

Last December, we launched sixteen shades of “Metal Abstract” and “Corten Steel” at the ZAK Expo in Delhi, among much fanfare. The aim of the launch was to serve the growing trend of Corten Steel finish panels in an affordable manner. Over the last two months we have seen a surge in the projects that demand the corten steel look all over India – from Delhi to Kerala – and what’s more, architects and owners have appreciated the final look of the building.

Aluminium Composite Panel and Its Importance

Aluminium Composite Panel and Its Importance 825 510 admin

When it comes to structural integrity and unparalleled fire safety, Aluminium Composite Panel outrun any other material. In this post, we will discuss fire-safe building materials. One of them is fire retardant ACP. ACP consists of two high-strength aluminum sheets which sandwich a low density, insulating core. Hence, they are also known as sandwich panels. The core material contains a non-combustible mineral and a small fraction of thermoplastic which ensures high-performance against fire hazards.

Evolution of Aluminium Composite Panel

The Aluminium Composite Panel was originally introduced as a joint-invention between companies known as Alusingen and BASF in 1969. In spite of its introduction in the 1960s, it was only until the mid-1980s that the mainstream architectural industry discovered the properties of ACP as a building material, and started its extensive use. The commercial usage of ACP in residential buildings happened only in the 1990s as it was realized that it would reduce costs and enhance architectural performance.

Aluminium Composite Panel Brands

The first form of ACP was marketed under the brand name ‘Alucobond®’, whose manufacturing process was patented by Alusingen for 20 years between 1971 and 1991. The original composite panels were known as Alucobond. After the patent expired, many important names of the construction industry began the ACP manufacturing process.

VIVA FR ACP in India is one of the leading manufacturers of these panels. It’s a company of prestige in the Veneer and ply industries with a proven track record of experience.

VIVA is an ISO 9001-2008 and ISO 14001:2004 and “CE” certified company set up in 2005 at Mumbai, Maharashtra. The manufacturing facility has a state-of-the-art quality machine and has an integrated infrastructure and a talented pool of professionals operating it. The ACP panels have popular eye appeal, unmatched quality, style, and durability. It has good insulation, low thermal conductivity, weather protection and ready to use. It has a whole lot of deployment advantages, multiple applications to choose from by customers as per their needs, budgets and decorative requirements.

Change in composition of Aluminium Composite Panel with time

With time, the major changes in ACP happened in the composition of the aluminium panels. The overall thickness of the panels used is in the range of 3-6 mm(0.12-0.24in.). The width of the aluminium facings ranges between 0.2-0.8 mm.

The core may belong to any of the three general categories:

  • PE cores – these cores are made of 100% polyethylene(PE) and are flammable.
  • FR cores – these cores are made up of a composite material containing 70%-90% of mineral wool/rock fiber/rock wool, which are non-combustible and act as a fire retardant.
  • Aluminium forest – these are either made of the aluminium honeycomb structure or solid aluminium.

With different paints and coatings ACPs are also developed:

  • PE/FR Constructional/Architectural Panel sheets coated with PVDF resin, (XT/  High Durable) polyester paint.
  • Panel sheets coated with Nano PVDF
  • Digital Printing/Signage Panel sheets coated with FEVE resin or high-quality polyester.

Since the modifications carried out with the core and panel quality,  several Aluminium Composite Panels products have launched which show many architectural advantages over other building materials:

  • Higher strength to weight ratio
  • Lighter weight
  • Material flexibility and adaptability
  • Durability
  • Superior insulation features

Evolution of its applications
